The X5 also has a plug-in hybrid. It delivers up to 58 combined MPG when using gas and electricity. The Q7 doesn't offer a hybrid.
In the Q7's favor: an optional third-row that brings its seating capacity up to seven. The X5 has two rows and doesn't seat more than five.
And if you park in tight spots a lot, the Q7 is an easier vehicle to get in and out of. Despite being longer, the Q7 is narrower than the X5.
The Q7 is also better equipped for tall passengers, particularly in the front row. It offers nearly two more inches of front legroom than the X5.

The new 2025 Audi Q7 and BMW X5 standard features have a lot of similarity - at their base trims and throughout their lineups.
The entry Q7 does have some important standard features not found on the base X5. These include genuine leather seating, adaptive cruise control, remote engine start, rear side airbags, and rear climate control.
Major X5 base standard features not on the entry Q7 include power passenger lumbar support, Bluetooth streaming audio, forward collision warning, adjustable ambient lighting, and wireless charging.

Q7 vs. X5 - Reliability
If you intend to drive your next car for a long time, go with the BMW X5.
The X5 performs better than the Q7 in reliability studies. JD Power scored the 2024 X5 an 82 (out of 100) in quality and reliability. The 2024 Q7 got a 78.
The study "measures the level of defects, malfunctions, and design flaws experienced by vehicle owners." It "covers the entire vehicle from engine to infotainment system."
Data for the 2025 models will be available later this year.
iSeeCars.com gave the 2025 X5's reliability an 8.4 (out of 10). The 2025 Q7 got 8.1. Grades are compiled from a combination of a vehicle's average lifespan and ability to last over 200,00 miles.
